Under-desk knee clearance
A 19.7 in (50 cm) top can still fail if a drawer box, a thick cable tray, or a sit-stand crossbar occupies the only place your knees can go.
This is a dimension guide for the cavity under the worktop. It is furniture layout, not a medical seating standard.
The cavity you actually have
Sit in the chair you will use. The useful cavity is the rectangle from the underside of the top down to your thighs, and from the front edge back to the first rail, drawer, or tray.
Planning checks (verify at home — typical, not a rule):

A rear SIGNUM-class tray on the back 4.7 in (12 cm) of a 50 cm desk usually leaves the knee zone. A tray screwed under the front half does not.
Drawers on compact desks
A one-drawer compact desk (MICKE-class, ~50 cm depth) can still work if:
- The drawer is shallow and you treat it as shutdown storage, not a file cabinet.
- You sit slightly back so knees clear the box.
- Rollback still exists — a drawer does not invent floor.
Skip a deep file pedestal on an 80 cm wall. The pedestal eats width and the pass lane.
Sit-stand frames
A compact frame still needs a place for the motor bar. If the bar sits 9.8 in (25 cm) back from the front edge, people with longer thighs clip it. Try the sit-test in the shop or measure the listing’s underside photo. If you cannot, prefer a fixed 72–76 cm top. Shape trade-offs: folding vs corner vs sit-stand.
Cable trays vs knees
Run power at the rear. Leave a slack loop. Do not hang a brick in the exact center of the cavity. Details: cable management on an 80–100 cm desk.
