24 × 48 in WFH corner: one footprint

24 × 48 in (61 × 122 cm) is a US writing-desk class. It is wide enough for one honest job and deep enough for wrists — if you treat it as a single footprint, not as a spare-room L that magically grows a second screen.

This is not the six-scene gallery on studio corners. It is one rectangle, taped in inches.

What the rectangle actually holds

Plan the top in three strips, front to back, on the 24 in (61 cm) depth:

1. Front 8–10 in (20–25 cm): keyboard and wrists. If this strip dies, the desk is a shelf.
2. Middle 6–8 in (15–20 cm): notebook, closed laptop, or a mouse that does not fall off.
3. Rear 6–8 in (15–20 cm): one panel on an arm, or a laptop raised on a low stand — not a factory 32 in stand.

On the 48 in (122 cm) width:

A 32 in panel is a different conversation — monitor arm for a 32 in screen. Dual 24 in glass already wants ~43 in (110 cm) before a gap. On 48 in of top, dual is a vanity project.

Corner vs flush on one wall

Flush on one leftover wall is the default. You need about 50–52 in (127–132 cm) of clear run so a 48 in top does not kiss the casing. If the leftover is under 48 in, do not force this footprint — use small desk under 48 in.

A true corner (two walls meeting) only helps when:

• Both walls are clear of a radiator you must not block
• The chair can sit in the pocket without a door arc
• The return is for paper or a closed laptop, not a second monitor

If you have two short leftovers and want an L, read L-shape on two 48 in walls. That is two tops, not this one rectangle rotated.

Chair pocket

A 24 in deep top still needs 35–43 in (90–110 cm) from the front edge to the first thing behind you if you use a rolling task chair. An armless stool against a wall you never walk behind can live with less — often 24–30 in (60–75 cm). Tape it. The chair rollback page is the sit-test, not a health standard.

In a bedroom, the pocket is usually the walk path to the closet. If the chair and the bed fight, this footprint loses — bedroom desk.

Closest named top

LAGKAPTEN 47.2 × 23.6 in (120 × 60 cm) is the public IKEA writing slab nearest 24 × 48. Pair it with legs or a trestle you already own. It is not the same as MICKE 28.7 × 19.7 in (73 × 50 cm), which is a narrower, shallower drawer desk for laptop-only leftovers.

Light, cables, lease

A 24 in depth punishes lamp bases. Clamp to a side lip you do not write against — desk lamp criteria and clamp-only upgrades. One power brick on the floor beats a nest on the walk path — cable-free apartment office if you can dock; otherwise cable management on 31–39 in for trays.

Do not drill the corner for a floating bracket unless the lease already said yes. Household caution, not legal advice.

Skip if

• Leftover wall is under 50 in and you will not shorten the top.
• You already bought a 32 in panel and will not raise it on an arm that the desk can host.
• The “corner” is a hallway with a door swing — that is an alcove problem.
• Rollback is under ~30 in (76 cm) and you refuse a stool.

One footprint. One job. Measure the pocket.
